I’m sure you’ve come across many couples on Instagram who have joint accounts.

They’re always posting pictures from all their date nights with cutesy captions proclaiming just how much they love each other.

It always makes you wonder why don’t they just say those paragraphs to each other instead of typing them out, especially since they live together!

But a part of you also wonders what it would be like if you and your partner also created your own joint account. You don’t necessarily want to rub your love into peoples faces (maybe a bit), but you more so think it could be a fun picture diary that you’d share with your loved ones.

Whatever your reason may be, if creating a joint account is on your mind then we’re going to give you three reasons you absolutely shouldn’t, followed by three reasons you absolutely should. After that, it’s up to you and your partner to decide if it’s something you guys would be interested in.

Disadvantages:

- Managing a joint Instagram account requires both partners to be equally involved in the process. This can be time consuming and hard to maintain if both of you have busy schedules. Even if one person has more time, it might start feeling like a chore if the other person isn’t as involved.

- Having a shared account will also mean that everything will be visible to both you and your partner. This can lead to a lack of privacy in the relationship, especially if you save something in an album or have a conversation that you would prefer to keep private.

- You two might have completely different tastes when it comes to content so you always find that one of you is compromising to achieve a cohesive aesthetic. This can lead to disagreements or loss of interest in maintaining the account.

Advantages:

- It would be an excellent and affordable creative outlet. Throwing a filter on might not seem like it takes much creativity at first, but once you start posting more content you’ll be looking for ways to capture the best angle with the best light all while trying to maintain the theme. You and your partner might start exploring photo editing apps which would be another learning experience altogether! The best part is there’s a lot of apps and sites available that cost little to no money and they’re user friendly.

- It will be a great way to strengthen your bond. As you two create content, shoot photos, share stories, and go live, you’ll be spending a lot of quality time together with a common goal in mind. It'll also be another topic of conversation and hobby to spice up your routine. All of these factors combined will bring you two closer than you’ve ever been before!

- Lastly, it will be a great way to connect with other couples who have similar interests. You can follow and interact with like-minded couples and befriend them. This is a great way to make friends, especially if you live somewhere remote.
